Mansion of TerrorHalloween Haunted House With Double the ScaresGuide Rating -
![]() Attend the Mansion of Terror with the idea that it's
going to be good, creepy fun and that it's OK to get spooked. Sarah,
Samantha, and I allowed ourselves to suspend belief and had a howling good
time. Of course I tried to stay in the middle so the ghouls couldn't get
to me.
See the 5-Star 2006 review of the Mansion of Terror and the Behind the Screams Special Report... it's awesome - better than 2005 Mansion of Terror - Made Up and Ready to Scare YouAt the Mansion of Terror Halloween Haunted House they've gone to great pains to set the stage for you. The makeup and costumes are well-done from the ticket booth to the ticket taker to the murderous monsters inside each part of the haunted house. Some of the performers were downright creepy the way they just stood there, motionless, staring right past you and not moving until you look away. The waiting area, lit with blacklights and black-draped windows helps to set the mood. The music can be unnerving -- intentional I'm sure -- also helping to get you in the mood.Housed in the old Furr's Cafeteria at Northcross Mall (moved in 2006 to Round Rock), its history as a restaurant is grossly evident in a portion of the attraction. To help maintain order and to give you a nice feeling of isolation, they let you go through in small groups of 2-4 people, spaced out just enough that you can hear the screams and nervous laughter of those up ahead and behind you but not so close that you get that "safety in numbers" feeling going for you. For 2006 You'll find the Mansion of Terror at: You're given two choices of themed adventures. Do one or do both. Screamatoria 3D in the Mansion of TerrorThe thrills are a little lighter in Screamatoria 3D but the 3D effect (they give you glasses to wear) are cool. The walls and sometimes the floor seems to float and move in and out as you weave past "things" hanging from the ceiling and try not to get too close to the "paintings" on the wall. Even when you know it's not real you can't help but be a little hesitant to go around a corner, walk through a cloth-draped doorway, or venture too close to the dark recesses of a room. Children under 12 or anyone who gets overly anxious in total darkness may prefer the Screamatoria over the Asylum of Darkness. But if you have a fear of clowns, Samantha warns, "the clown follows you everywhere." Replaced in 2006 with Pitch DarkAsylum of Darkness Within the Mansion of TerrorIt's a creepier, darker humor in the Asylum of Darkness. You'll encounter lots of dead bodies, body parts, madmen, manwomen, more gore and more dark rooms where you can't figure out where to go next. Unseen things brush up against you in the darkness. Part of the thrill of the asylum is not knowing when or where something will reach out, scream in your face, or simply make a sudden move so that even through the more static areas you're always on-guard. 12-year old Sarah preferred the darkness of the asylum saying, "you never knew what was coming."Admission to the Mansion of Terror in Austin Texas (2006)Pick up a $2.00 coupon at area Goodwill StoresGeneral Admission Combo Pass Buy Tickets Online Initially open only on weekends, beginning October 26 the Mansion of Terror is open every night from 7p to midnight through Halloween night 2006.
